Artist Statement
Creating art often stirs my emotions and infuses me with energy and at other times it provides a much-needed resting spot to regain my balance.
Georgia O’Keefe once said something to the effect, “I love it when everything is in order because then I have the freedom to paint.” My motto is the opposite: “If I wait until everything is in order; I will never feel free to paint or do anything creative.”
I work primarily with watercolors and acrylics, often folding in oil pastels and ink. I am currently deep into mixed media with all its complexity, including collaging original monoprints.
My first introduction to watercolor was in a Lee Rommel workshop, during my college years, where I painted the Native American girl shown on this site. Much later I was fortunate to take watercolor workshops from Charles Reed and Ted Nuttall. I have also studied acrylic painting under William Hook and John Poon.
Other artists who have inspired me include Louisa McElwain, Zao Wou-Ki, David Tress and Alfred Leslie.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website and view my art. To paraphrase the words of Pablo Picasso: I hope the time spent helped to “wash some of the dust of daily life off of your soul”.
With Appreciation,
Vivian
